Hi Guys,

I imagine we'll encounter this more and more, so let's make a sticky topic for it.

ET and Vista by default don't play nicely together.  The best thing you can do (if you have the resources and know-how) is to create an XP partition and dual-boot.  If you really want to run in Vista:

  • Run as Administrator - ET must be run as Administrator so punkbuster can do it's stuff.  I believe this can be done by right clicking on the shortcut and saying "Run As Administrator".  This means you can't launch it via xfire (unless you run xfire as admin too, I guess).
  • Install the Vista Performance and Vista Compatibility Packs - These packs (which I think come via Windows Update if you're keeping up to date on that) are reported to help with ET.
  • Try different versions of graphics drivers - This is dependent on what you have running now.  Sometimes going to the latest is reported to help.  Sometimes rolling back and installing a previous version or two is reported to help.  Get the drivers from your card's site (NVidia/ATI/Intel/whatever).

That's all I could see offhand.  If you have any other ideas/solutions, feel free to post.

Try this from a command prompt:

C:

cd\windows\system32

osuninst.exe

D:\i386\winnt

Works great for me.

yeah, ok,
did you buy a new computer Equiped to actualy run vista, or did you install on substandarf xp computer.

I bought New computer With vista Premium Onboard.

i would say that from a developers angle, i love vista, and it's much more secure than xp.
if all i needed computer to surf and play games, maybe,
But I have Developed many websites, scripts, codes, and play many games, and couldnot be happier.
In my oppinion, Vista Kicks xp out the door, I suggest to everyone to, take your time, get it configured the way you need it,( a lil config is nec), and get used to it because i think xp is gone after 2008.
unless the extended it.

2 of my xp computers have been hacked, so much for xp security, and nortons, both failed to protect my xp computers.

i wish you al the best  Cool

I think most vista troubles happen when consumers try to install on computers originaly came with a different o/s at purchase, I personaly don't know, as I purchased new computer with vista premium installed when my xp computer went down.

I think ;  instead of spending $500.00 on a vista cd, you would be better to spend a few hundred more and buy a new computer, with Vista and "All will be Vista Compatible".

I remember when xp came out, was the exact same way.

NOTE; I have no experience of trying to install Vista on a xp or other o/s computer, this is just my best guess at why I have "no vista troubles".

Of course, Microsoft rather you buy the cd, as they make less off the vista pre-installed in retail computers.
They Make More when you buy the cd, then realize you need the new computer after all{Once you open the cd you CANNOT get refund from retailer}.

I hope this topic will be food for thought to any considering these options.

All windows are crap.  I was liking Windows 7 until it slowed things down big time, it was no better than Vista.  No matter, I'll be a mac person instead.
