Frequently the question arises, "How can I keep my stats if I have to
reinstall ET?" On BPark3 and most servers, your stats are tracked by
your GUID. This is a unique ID number that is associated with a file
called etkey, found in the
/etmain directory. You receive this file the first time you run ET and
attempt to log on to a server. It is like registering software, but the
purpose of the etkey/GUID for any ET server to be able to uniquely
identify you. The trick to being able to keep your
stats after a clean reinstallation of ET is to keep a backup of your
old etkey file. Here's a
step-by-step
guide that shows you one way of doing this. These steps can also be
followed if you want to play on different computers under the same
GUID; for example, if you sometimes play on your brother's computer,
and other times on your own computer, or worse if you play at work and
at home!
Here is an outline of what you must do, followed by a more detailed
step-by-step guide:
- Backup your etkey file,
profile folders, map files, and any other shrubet, etpro or similar
folders that you want backed up.
- Install ET.
- Run ET without connecting to a server.
- Name a profile, set your connection type,
and
enable punkbuster.
- In the drop-down console, run the command \pb_cdkeyreg.
- Exit out of ET.
- Replace the etkey in /etmain.
- Replace your profile folder in
/etmain/profiles (also /shrubet and /etpro and any other folders you
backed up).
- Connect to bpark3 with your shortcut link.
Ta da! You are yourself again!

First, before you uninstall ET, or format your hard drive, save a
backup
copy of your etkey file. Look
in /etmain to find your etkey file.

Copy your etkey file and save it in a convenient location.

You may also want to backup your profile folders. You will find a
/profile folder in /etmain, /shrubet, and /etpro.

You will probably also want to backup your map and campaign files to
avoid having to download these again. You can copy all of the .pk3
files if you'd like, but it is probably best to copy only those .pk3
files that are needed on the servers that you play on. Once you have
your etkey, profile and .pk3 map files backed up, you can
go ahead and reformat, reinstall, install ET on a new computer, or
whatever you need to do. We will assume that you know how to reinstall
ET at this point.
When you have completed the reinstallation, start ET.

Create a new profile with a new name, specify your connection type, and
enable punkbuster. Click CREATE when you are done.

Now bring down the console by pressing the tilde ( ~ ) key. In the console, type \pb_cdkeyreg and press enter. This
will request a cdkey from the guid master server. When you have
successfully received the cdkey, you should see a message as shown
above that says, "Cdkey/GUID Registration successful."
Exit Enemy Territory and navigate to your ET installation directory.
You should see your new etkey file
in /etmain.

Replace the new etkey file
with your backed-up etkey file.

If you backed up your profile folder from /etmain, copy it into your
new /etmain directory.

If you also backed up any /shrubet, /etpro, or other folders,
copy them over to your enemy territory directory as well. Now you have
a fresh installation of Enemy Territory with your backed-up etkey/GUID.
You can join BPark3 and keep the same stats that you had before you
reinstalled ET.
